    "The concept of a “Master Surveyor” was introduced for the Mataura Valley Milk Project (MVM) in response to several quality issues that were experienced on previous large scale construction projects.

    The root cause of these previous quality issues was the fact that the projects were divided into multiple different packages with different contractors, design partners and surveyors. This division resulted in several instances where adjacent work packages were not in sync in terms of datum’s and interfaces.

    For MVM all the different contractors and design partners were required to use the Master Surveyor for the following functions:

    Site Control

    Integration of Design into a Master Model and associated QA

    Building Setout

    Underground Services Setout

    Pre Pour Checks

    As-Building

    Having one surveyor on-site in a full time capacity to undertake this role resulted in less waste, repeat work and improved the efficiency of the contractors."
